Budget presentation goes digital


The budget presentation is going digital this year for the first time as Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith will make a PowerPoint presentation at the Jatiya Sangsad Thursday, bringing an end to the practice of the lengthy reading of budget document.
In line with the government's endevour for Digital Bangladesh, the finance minister will take the comfort of PowerPoint software to unveil the budget for 2010-11 financial year.
This will be the 39th national budget of the country and the 11th of the Awami League government.
The finance minister is expected to announce a considerably large expenditure target of Taka 132,000 crore, 16 percent higher than that of the current 2009-10 fiscal, ending June 30.
The budget is expected to give special attention to some key sectors, including power and infrastructure, and will address faster implementation of the Annual Development Programme (ADP).
An official handout said today that the finance minister would also present the annual financial statement, supplementary budget, combined demand for grants, consolidated fund receipt and the Bangladesh Economic Review.
All the documents will be available on the websites including www.mof.gov.bd, www.bangladesh.gov.bd, www.nbr-bd-org, www.plancomm.gov.bd, www.imed.gov.bd, www.bdpressinform.org and www.pmo.gov.bd.
People will have access to the budget documents soon after the announcement and they will be able to download the documents and send feedback about the budget on the designated websites, the handout said.
