Razu discusses bank loan for expansion of Teletalk network

Minister for Post and Telecommunications Razi Uddin Ahmed Razu has discussed the Chinese EXIM Bank loan proposal for introduction of third generation mobile phone of Teletalk and expansion of "Two Point Five Generation Network Project" with the visiting Chinese delegation. The discussion was held on Thursday when a three-member EXIM Bank Delegation, led by Assistant General Manager of Concessional Loan Department of the bank, Gao Bing, called on the minister at his secretariat office. Two other members of the delegation were Wang Zhijie, divisional chief of EXIM Bank China and Fang Xin Cheng, country manager of the bank. Mentioning the existing excellent bilateral relations between the two friendly countries, the minister hoped that the relations between Bangladesh and China would be further strengthened in the days to come.

 

Internet, mobile banking told to collect remittance

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Planning Ministry yesterday recommended the government to introduce internet and mobile banking system in the country to facilitate the expatriate Bangladeshi workers to send remittance to home.
In a meeting at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, the committee also urged for taking steps to send workers abroad at low cost, and in view of this, collect visa of workers through the embassies, a Parliament Secretariat press release said.
Chairman of the committee Dr Oli Ahmed presided over the meeting while members Planning Minister Air Vice-marshal AK Khandakar, Azizul Haq Chowdhury, ANM Shamsul Islam were present, among others.
The parliamentary committee discussed the matter of present status of the disposal of the allegations submitted by aggrieved persons to the Bureau of Manpower. 

BSNL launches India’s first Mobile WiMAX Service

NEW DELHI – The state-owned telecom company, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) has launched the country’s first Mobile WiMAX service in Kerala. Kerala became the first state in urban India to fourth generation Internet access network.
Union minister of state for Agriculture and Consumer Affairs and Ernakulam MP, K V Thomas, launched the facility at a function in Thiruvananthapuram. BSNL’s WiMAX service is powered by AVIAT, formerly Harris Stratex.
WiMAX stands for Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access technology, which can provide a speed of up to 37 Mbps data transfer.
In the first phase, 50 BTS would be set up to cover all major cities, all district headquarters and important towns in Kerala. The project will cost Rs 100 crore. The second phase will witness another 450 BTS, which would be commissioned to cover remaining towns and all imporatnt locations.
