The government has planned frequent video-conferencing with the grass roots to maintain communications and expedite higher use of digital devices.
The cabinet division has sought about Tk 20 crore from the finance ministry for regular video-conferencing to bring in further dynamism in the administration, officials said.
The will provide directives to field-level officials through video-conferencing about keeping law and order and facing emergencies.
Sources said this was part of the present government’s plans for increased used digital technologies in its activities as the current e-governance status was not satisfactory.
A study conducted by the planning ministry in 2008 revealed showed e-governance status of the country was still in early stages as more than 70 per cent of the public servants do not use any computer.
Sources said video-conferencing was introduced in such activities first in 2009.
Nearly a dozen meetings through video-conferencing were held under a project involving Tk 9 crore.
The government has made some progress as it has already brought the grass roots under the internet network. Use of e-mail has been made mandatory for administrative officials at the field level.
It has also plans to improve school, hospital, business and government services by linking hooking them up to the internet by 2021.
