Frame rules in 2 months to legalise VoIP

JS body asks telecom ministry

A parliamentary standing committee yesterday asked the post and telecommunications ministry to formulate a legal framework within two months to legalise VoIP (voice over Internet protocol) business.

"Police and Rab will not be able to stop [illegal] VoIP business. So, we asked the ministry to make it legal," Hasanul Haq Inu, chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on post and telecommunications ministry, told reporters after the committee's meeting at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.

Inu, a Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal lawmaker, said the ministry has assured the committee that it will take steps to formulate laws to legalise the VoIP business as soon as possible.

He said legal VoIP business will generate employments and earn the country huge revenues.

Replying to a question, he warned of dire consequences to those who have brought allegations of illegal VoIP business against the prime minister's son Sajeeb Wazed Joy.

"It is their duty to prove the allegations against Joy and they should also know there will be dire consequences if they fail to do so," Inu said.
